Candidate Filing & Information Meetings
The candidate filing period for the May 12 GWNC Board elections began on Friday, February 12. An informational meeting for prospective candidates will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at
Hollywood City Hall
6501 Fountain Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90038
Candidate applications will be available for completion at the meeting. Please note: all 21 seats on the Board are up for election this year. There are seats representing 15 different geographic areas, as well as seats representing six special interest categories (education, religious organizations, other non-profit groups, renters, businesses and an at-large seat).
Please consider running for a seat on our board...and please alert other stakeholders to who might want to run as well.
Also, please note that the Feb. 17 meeting isn't a formal session, but a chance for stakeholders to register on the spot (instead of having to drive down to Piper Technical Center in Downtown Los Angeles), and to ask any questions they might have about the filing or election process. You do not have to be there at 6:30 and you do not have to stay until 8:30 - you can drop by anytime to pick up an application. Just be sure to bring any necessary documentation to qualify your stakeholder status for the position that you file for (candidates for any of the geographic seats must show proof that they live, work or own property within the area they seek to represent; candidates for a special interest seat must demonstrate a connection to an organization that falls within that special interest category).
Filing forms are also available for download on the City Clerk Election Division Neighborhood Council Website at http://cityclerk.lacity.org/election/ncdocs/GREATER%20WILSHIRE%20NC.pdf
Finally, there will be another filing and informational meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6. This session will be identical to the one on Feb. 17.
We hope to see you at the candidate meetings!
