May 1 Immigration March on Wilshire Boulevard
Submitted by lizfuller on Wed, 04/26/2006 - 13:20.Dear Neighbors,
An immigrant rights march is planned for Wilshire Boulevard on Monday, May 1, effectively closing Wilshire boulevard for five hours, from 3p-8p, from the west side of Alvarado Blvd. to LaBrea Ave.
Marchers will begin to gather at MacArthur Park at 3p. The march is expected to begin at 4p, ending at Wilshire and LaBrea. A stage will be erected at Wilshire and LaBrea for speeches. The boulevard is expected
to re-open at 8 p.m.
Because of potential traffic problems, the commanding officer of the LAPD's Wilshire Division, Capt. Richard Wemmer, recommends that people who live in the adjoining neighborhoods telecommute, leave work early or stay home unless they plan to participate in the march. Everyone should expect delays and drive carefully if you choose to travel. Depending on the event, Sixth Street and Eighth Street could also be closed.

Revised Bylaws - For Review at January 11 Meeting
Submitted by lizfuller on Fri, 01/06/2006 - 11:27.Attached is the final edit of the Amended Bylaws for the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council. Please note:
1. The bolded passages are NEW language, codifying the matters that were debated and voted upon by the Board at our November meeting. Our committee did not change the non-bolded passages since they were presented in November, except for some minor efforts to further reduce ambiguity (see, most notably, revisions to the passage on Vacancies).
2. The Ad Hoc Committee on Bylaws (Jane Usher, Yigal Arens, Baruch Twersky, Jolene Snett, Cindy Chvatal, Roy Forbes)will present the document at our January 11 meeting, and the Board will be asked to vote on it. The document REQUIRES a favorable vote from 21 or more Board members, so attendance is essential. DONE has already contacted us to gear up for elections in June, so our attention to these revisions (which call for the next election in March 2007) could not be more timely.
